You are an obvious artist, and I only wish that I lived in your area so I could see it for myself. I found your site from a link at Bamboo Mountain, and I just wanted to say thank you for caring about the work and the people who live on it, rather than worshipping the dollar. I always appreciate craftsmanship when it appears. Again, Thank you.

When changing direction or ending into a header, sometimes the tongue or groove disappears. I haven't read anywhere that addresses this. Is any fabrication suggested, or is a "Butt Joint OK? Thank You, Tom C.

We live north of Pittsburgh and we want to install 3/4" solid hardwood 2 1/4" strip Maple floor :). The house is about 7 years old now (all with carpet).
We have a fireplace that is brick in the Family room.. If I have to undercut the brick (inspired by your work and photos you have in the site) - What took should I use (saw? blades? any specific techniques?)
Can i practice with some extra beicks I found leftover from the previous owners?
Any advise deeply apprecieated.
I can send you the picture of the current fireplace if you want to have a look..
Thanks, Sriram and Rupa.

Is this grey area? or is it a NO NO? p.s I always leave expansion gaps everywhere else. thanks for the help

| | Date: | 10/7/2007 2:16:15 PM | | Subject: | Maple flooring finish | | | e recently had 1000 sq ft of maple flooring finished and have alot of debris in the finish. ie. bristles, a few hairs, and 1-2 mm. pieces of sawdust. The finishers did not vacuum the other flat surfaces in the rrooms before putting the final coat on. It is swedish finish. I expressed our concerns about the problem and was told to pick out the large pieces and the finish would cure and these would blend in. Is this common practice with a swedish finish??? We also have a few spots that a shinier than others and one spot that looks and feels like some sort of glue was used and the finish did not penetrate. The finisher states they stand by their work and will rectify anything within in 6 months. But we are concerned that we will have to vacate the house again in 6 months and have it done all over again. Have any suggestions.
Thanks
Kathy

| | Date: | 1/24/2007 8:23:49 AM | | Subject: | Carpet Transition | | | Hello! I found your link from a post on hardwoodinstaller.com. You have some really great pics! I have a question that I'm having a hard time visualizing. I am putting down 3/4" BR111 floors. I ordered threshold molding for the entry way into the bedrooms that transition to carpet. However, when I received the moldings from BR111 they use a universal threshold so the height of the threshold is 11/16, but the lip of the threshold that rests on top of the floor is 1/4". Basically what I'm saying is the threshold will not sit directly on the subfloor when in installed? How do I handle this? I called BR111 and they said to either use a heavy bead of construction adhesive, use shims, or face nail the molding to the floor and the threshold will move with the floor over the carpeting. How would you handle this install, would you use a different type of transition molding? I was also planning to use this around the hearth, but when I saw your undercut installation I like that much better. This is for a new house and the builder raised the hearth up 3/4" so I will only need to chisel out the plywood to get the flooring under the hearth. Any help you can provide would be great! Thanks - Robert | | | | | |
